If you want to keep your body healthy, make sure it always has an alkaline pH level. Nowadays, most of us are more likely to have a more acidic body duet many reasons like environmental factors, our foods and stress.
Why is this important?
The answer is simple. If our body is more acidic, we are at higher risk of suffering from digestive problems, weight gain, and fatigue.
Besides, if our body environment is excessively acidic for a long time, the healthy cells could turn toxic and even become cancerous.
The Acidic-Alkaline Mechanism of Our Body
The pH scale runs 0 to 14, with 0 representing the highest-possible acidity and 14 the very opposite. 7 is the neutral mark.
The fact is that our body requires a light alkaline environment to work. The optimal level is 7.4. But that is not a standard for entire body.
Our different organs and body systems need different pH levels. The following points will give you a better idea:
- Saliva – It has pH level in the range 6.5 and 7.0. The higher acidity is for helping with digesting foods.
- Skin – pH level of 5. As per a study (published – International Journal of Cosmetic Science), the pH level must be between 4 and 4.5 because this will allow bacteria essential for healing and fighting infections to thrive in the skin.
- Digestive Tract – pH level in the range 1.5 and 7.0. It will depend on so many factors, particularly our food.
Why Our Body Needs Alkalinity?
The impact of food on overall body pH levels has been known for more than a century now. Dr. Otto Warburg discovered that 90 to 95% of cancers have acidic environment as the cause behind them. He also claimed that cancer cannot thrive or develop in an alkaline environment (our body) if the pH level is about 7.36. He won the Nobel Prize in Physiology/Medicine in 1931 for his discovery.
So many studies have since been conducted on the effect of different pH levels of foods and drinks on our body – how they contributed to acidity or alkalinity.
Just like Dr. Warburg said almost a century ago, over-acidity or acidosis has been found to be related to development of not only cancer, but other diseases like heart disease, osteoporosis, and diabetes, and almost all chronic disease which the human race suffers from today.
So How to Tell Over-Acidity in Your Body?
At the basic level, there are 2 simple methods for finding if your body has an acidic environment.
- Using standard pH paper for saliva test
- You are already suffering from any of these chronic symptoms:
- Muscular pain or cramps after walking even shorter distance
- If you run out of breath without much effort
- Continuous fatigue
- Regularly feeling that you are unable to get sufficient air
Whenever there’s decline in your pH level, the body is going to make a natural attempt for regulating itself (for creating homeostasis) through capture and storage of too acidic substances in the organs like liver, kidneys and lungs. This is done by our body to maintain optimal pH levels in the range 7.35 and 7.45.
But these stored acidic substances, eventually start attacking our healthy cells. This turns such cells to become damaged, sick and toxic.
In the long-term, when the tissue is not taken care of, such cells could metastasize, start growing without any control, and also spread to other organs or body parts.
You Are Eating Too Acidic Foods
The 21st-century diet that we eat today is considered the major reason behind chronic acidosis. This diet contains high levels of sugar, highly processed foods, alcohol, and caffeine. In fact, the growth hormones, pesticides and additives used for growing food also increase acidity within our body.
A great way to counter all this is to use alkaline water (besides making changes to your diet).
Our body is 70 percent water. Taking steps to make this water alkaline helps our body in creating homeostasis.
So How to Prepare Alkaline Water?
You will need the following ingredients:
- Lemon (organic) – 1
- Purified Water – 2 liter
- Himalayan Salt – 1 tbsp
You will also need a large glass jar.
- Take the glass jar and fill it up with water.
- Slice the lemon and put it into the water.
- Add the salt into the water.
Now cover the glass jar and keep it so for 12 to 24 hours at room temperature.
After 24 hours, drink three glasses of the alkaline water on empty stomach. It is preferable to start your day with this drink.
Then you could keep drinking the alkaline water through the day. Gradually, you will notice significant impact in the form of energy levels, clearer skin, and more alert brain. In fact, you will literally start feeling more alive.
It is also recommended to start taking healthier foods and avoiding sugar, processed foods and additives. This will help in achieving alkalinity faster.
